August 19, Wed {WW} Fort Snelling State Park Hike with Naturalist. Meet at 9:45 a.m. in front of the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center, Fort Snelling State Park, 101 Snelling Lake Road, St. Paul, MN 55111. {Do not go to Historic Fort which is on top of the bluff and operated separately by the Minnesota Historical Society.} State Park Naturalist Amy Mester will lead us on a nature walk of Fort Snelling State Park at 10 a.m. for 1.5 to 2 hours on both paved and gravel trails with relatively flat terrain and will describe the flood plain, landscape, geology, plants, and animals. She has binoculars {18 pairs} for bird watching or bring your own. She can also talk about the history of the area, including the historic fort. An annual park pass or a $7 daily pass is required. Parking is outside the Visitor Center. Bring a bag lunch to eat at the picnic tables after the hike. Hike is rain or shine.
