“Bike Your Park Day” is a national event sponsored by Adventure Cycling Association in conjunction with “National Public Lands Day.” To celebrate locally, we are offering a club ride from N Mississippi River Regional Park in Minneapolis through parks and trails in Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Elm Creek Park Reserve, Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park and the Mississippi River Regional Trail and Victory Memorial Trail. We’ll have three distances to choose from that include trails, roads and parks. The short and medium groups will ride together for the first 20 miles at a pace to enjoy the areas, the medium will add an additional 12 miles. The short ride (about 22 miles) will be led by Gary Solberg; the medium distance of about 32 miles will be led by Ann Rhea and Mel Peterson. The longer ride of about 40 miles, (with an average riding speed of 12-13 MPH) will be led by Lois Carlson and will include more roads. Be sure to bring snacks and plenty of water. There will be a lunch stop at Arby’s on the longer route and all rides will stop at the Coon Rapids Dam on the return. Meet at 10:00 a.m. in the parking area at the North Mississippi Regional Park Play Area, 5114 North Mississippi Dr in Minneapolis. From the North I-94 to 53rd Ave exit, left turn onto 53rd then right into the park OR from the South exit 226, North on Lyndale to 53rd then right into the park. We will begin biking at 10:30. This event is open to the public so bring friends and family and discover the bicycling opportunities in our area. Ride into Elm Creek and check out some of the trails you may ski this winter!
